I grew up here in Maine, where winters were spent ice fishing, all bundled up in 20 pounds of snow gear or spent at the beach while the summer season made its quick debut. Regardless of the temperature outside I realized that as a child we spent most of our time near water. I spent some summers as a lifeguard at the local water park and once I became a mom did the same realization set in; we were constantly around water. Knowing the dangers from my days as a lifeguard I sought out ISR. Devastated that the closest instructor was south of Boston I joined the waitlist and prayed we'd have someone come to our area before long. Little did I know that four years would go by before I finally took the plunge and became certified myself. What started as a selfish desire to give my own children these life saving skills has blossomed into a passion and mission to inform and change the way Maine families think around the water that we are so frequently surrounded by.
